Phetsada & Jonathan @Venue92 It doesn't snow much in Atlanta, so it was a treat to wake up to white powder (and weather in the teens).  Phetsada and Jonathan married and celebrated that day.  Venue92 was a gorgeous venue with epic windows and plenty of room for the preparations, ceremony, and party after.  Oh, stay for the cake.  Phetsada wasn't just the bride at the wedding, she baked the cake too.

Thank you Phetsada and Jonathan and all your family and friends for having us. Thanks to all the vendors and people who made this possible.  Thanks to Jason Bihler (awesome second shooter and the best event photographer in Nashville) and my daughter Kylee Chua (if you haven't seen her video from this wedding, check her out @Kylee with a Camera on FB and IG).

Dance of the snake Congratulations to Chris and Claudia.  This sweet couple were married and sealed at the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-Day Saints' temple located in the town of Franklin, TN.

After family pictures, they had fun with friends at a local arboretum and enjoyed some quiet time during their portraits.   They had a simple ring ceremony for all friends and family and then proceeded to have the biggest dance party.   Check out el baile de la vibora (the snake dance))!   Congrats you you and the families.

Apple Orchard Wedding We traveled to the beautiful hills of Pennsylvania to meet Laura and Brian.   This is Americana... communities are tight knit and folks still gathered around a campfire to talk about the good days when there was still plenty of coal in the hills.   After the morning fog cleared, it was a busy day at the family farm.  They weren't picking apples this time, a couple would be getting married.  This is Laura and Brian's wedding story..

Once upon a time Brittany and Drew both share a love of the magic that is Disney.   It's without surprise that they brought that fairy tale magic to their wedding.  Many hands from loved ones and helpers labored to make sure everything was right.  Families from far and wide were present to see the two wed.  Everything was indeed magical.

Once upon a time...

The couple, excited and anxious get ready.  Drew gets a little help from his groomsmen.  Brittany, always elegant - slips into her beautiful wedding dress with the help of her mom.

They walk to the nearby field for their first look.
Each bridesmaid and groomsmen were carefully selected; and so they get the attention too with their own portrait and headshot session.  They had a lot of fun hanging out together.
Who can forget the flowers especially when they are magical like these... A groom's final walk alone..  After a few more moments, he will be married.  Two gentlemen that love their daughter very much escort Brittany to meet Drew.   It was a perfect ceremony by the setting sun.
The party gets started with the entrance and the first dances (and yes, that's the most awesome entrance (with flair) by any bridesmaid so far).
Many beautiful details...
Words and toasts that were both funny and heartwarming. There was a lot of dancing. A lot of selfies. And a lot of love.
This is their epic walk and sparkler/fireworks exit!

Congratulations Brittany and Drew, and to your families!

The Barn at Allenbrooke Farms was the perfect setting.  What may not be so obvious was their super helpful staff; they just made everything go so smoothly (You're the best Amber!)  The flowers were beautiful; thank you Jayne.  Make up and hair were the work of R&CO Bridal Beauty.  Bride's dress by BHLDN.  Food & Catering by Teresa Erickon Montoya Catering and drinks/bartending by Simply Southern Occasions.  Cake was by Publix.  DJ Rio kept everyone dancing and enjoying.   Finally - my photography crew: Kylee and Jason!  You guys are awesome; thank you.

Mutual Weirdness That's what was on top of their cake: "Mutual Weirdness".  But as I got to know Brie and James and their family and friends I found that they were also mutually in love and loved by so many special people.  This is their wedding preview in blog.  I hope you guys like it.  Brie and James - thanks for being yourselves and so easy to work with.

This is their wedding day.  We start with Brie getting ready in her home as she prepares for the first look with her dad and to finally meet her future husband, James.  And they have a simple, and beautiful ceremony and then the party begins.

The flower girl kind off stole the show.   During our portrait session with the bride and groom, we had a very welcomed photobomber. Hilarious work Chelsie; you need to be part of the team and come to every one of our weddings.
#HowIMetYourMother Oh, and during our photo shoot, we had a random visit from a horse. And lots so beautifully candid moments with friends. There were lots of great food.. and lots of great fun.. and some dancing.. and more dancing..
and a little drinking.. Thank you, Brie and James, for having us.  And I thank all the incredible people who helped make it happen.  Masha Petrusheva did the makeup (and was an awesome bridesmaid).  A special thank you to Chelsie Lynn - you get the award for most fun photobomb ever.  Megan Foster does the best work on hair. The location was the family farm owned by Toni Murray.  Finally, thank you to my second shooter Sid Shiao and my assistant and daughter, Kylee Chua.

Romance at Snider Farms Tennessee has some of the best rolling hills and picturesque scenes.  Most are accessible by getting off one of the primary freeway systems and driving that road less travelled.  Between Nashville and Memphis, if you exit off a place called Jackson, TN you'll find this gem of a location.  It was the perfect meeting place for the families of Lawson and Courtney to celebrate their wedding.

Courtney and her bridesmaids got ready at a nearby bed and breakfast.  Minutes from their venue, the magnificent log mansion provided lots of room and beautiful natural light to shoot the women getting ready.   In between brush strokes, we find little moments that will be treasured forever.

Meanwhile, Lawson gets ready at one of the rooms at the Barn at Snider Farms.  All we needed was a little light to illuminate a touching moment of a mom helping her son put on his boutonniere.
These are tender moments between mother and daughter.  Mom puts the finishing touches on the dress. When both the bride and groom are ready; nothing is more important than seeing each other for the first time.
Courtney and Lawson take their couple pictures around Snider Farms.
And the wedding party are all ready (and look marvellous!). Courtney enjoys all the loving family here to celebrate with her.  And I love the four generations photo; it's as real as you can get.
Their daughter Brynlee was the perfect flower girl and ushered in a beautiful ceremony.  The first kiss is the golden shot of a wedding ceremony, but the parents looking at their son and daughter becoming a family is something special.  And I love a good shot of the ring the moment it binds the new family.   Courtney and Lawson started the reception with their first dance.  There were lots of good fun, delightful cake and delicious dinner (Brynlee approved).  Brynlee participated in the speeches and toasts. She helped the photographers as well.  Then there was dancing.
Lots and lots of dancing! Congratulations Courtney and Lawson!  There is no substitute for classic fireworks send off paired with the epic bride-groom dance walk.
Courtney and Lawson, and their families (and I) thank all the vendors who made it possible.  The Barn at Snider Farms is an absolute gem of a venue to get married.  The cake was done by Wild Flower Cake Designs.  Bryan Wallace was our DJ.  Taylor Peace did all the makeup for the mothers, bridesmaids and bride. Flowers and florals by Sand's Florist.  Lows Bridal & Formal provided Courtney's elegant dress.  The guys are dashing thanks to New York Suit Exchange.  I'd like a special thank you for my excellent second shooter, Stephanie Chambers and the video team at Lynn Productions (great working with you guys!).

Pizza. Beer. Family. Friends. Wedding. Laurel and Chris love each other, and they love pizza and beer.  So when it was time to get married, they kept it elegantly simple and then partied at the Tailgate Brewery with all their best friends and family (Enjoying Nashville's best of small batch, locally brewed beer and pizza).

Laurel started her wedding day at a nearby hotel with her mom and closest friends.  I love these moments of seeing a bride get ready.  The traditional 'wedding dress shot' is the dress usually hanging by itself; I love wedding dress shots that incorporate the family or friends.. in this case, two important girls carry her dress from the elevator full of anxious anticipation for their best friend getting married.  The little details are important, but they don't have to be so obvious.  Laurel checks herself in a special compact given by a loved one.

Meanwhile, Chris gets the finishing touches done and waits for Laurel.  He preferred to be in solitude; it's a special moment when a groom sees his bride for the first time.

The first look is an oppurtunity to stand back to back and bask in the anticipation (both for the bride and groom).  It's a special moment that a couple will treasure forever that no one else (sans photographer) witnesses.

Chris and Laurel exchange their vows attended only by the officiant and their parents.  Hidden in many of Nashville's treasured forests... it was peaceful and wonderful.

Posing doesn't have to be boring and they can be as authentic as you'd like...

Brides... always allow extra time just for portraits for yourself.  It's great moment to breath the light and add a moment to medidate on your day.

And then the party...

The pizza...lots of pizza.

Be surrounded by those you love and who loves you.

The couple take a break from the festivities and enjoy a beautiful sunset right outside...

Thank you for everyone who contributed to Chris and Laurel's wedding day..  Karina Kent did beautiful makeup and Anna Williams does magic with hair. Elope in Nashville was the officiant.  Jason for being an amazing second photographer (another one for the books!).  And of course Tailgate Brewery for hosting us and the amazing service, pizza and drinks!

Grace Valley's Enchanted Forest Tennessee summers are hot and unforgiving, but it's also when rolling hills and wooded enclaves are the most picturesque and wedding season is in full bloom.  And when family and friends are together, and you're about to say "I do", nothing else matters. Hailey and Nathan united their families and married at the scenic and expansive Grace Valley Farms in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

After photographs of them getting ready, they would make their way to the nearby forest for their first look.   It's always a tender moment that is truly cherished.  Amidst the busy day, this is one of the rare times bride and groom can be alone and just enjoy each other before walking down the aisle.  The excitement is palpable. Vows were reviewed one more time.  The ring bearer guarded the day's most important treasure.  The flower girl's petals were ready to mark the path for the bride to walk down the aisle and meet her groom.  The bridesmades gave one last wave before they walked down the aisle while the guys have one last smoke and laugh.  Hailey was escorted by two very important men of her life to met Nathan.  They exchanged vows, exchanged rings and shared a romantic first kiss.  We would take formal pictures of the family; the wedding party and everyone was excited to start the celebration!

Nathan and Hailey enjoyed a beautiful first dance surrounded by the ones they love who love them. They cut the cake.  Eager single guys and girls fought for the garter and bouquet.  Everyone danced through the night until the final exit.

Thanks to Sam Fox with Make Some Noise Events, the staff and venue of Grace Valley Farms, Jason Bihler as my second photographer and all the other wonderful vendors who made this day perfect.  Thank you Hailey, Nathan and your families for giving us a part of in your special day.  Congratulations!

Centennial Classic With a little help from mom, the groom gets ready to see his bride.  Michael and his groomsmen will soon walk down the paths around the Parthenon here in Nashville, a park called Centennial.    The Nashville version is over 2500 years newer than it's Greek counterpart, but it's a full-sized replica down to each detail.  The surrounding gardens would be a great spot to take their photos and spend a little time before the wedding ceremony. Suit by Flip.

The bride shares laughs and smiles with her bridesmaids at her wedding day.  A bride has never complained about having 'way too many portraits'.  A wedding day is busy but set aside 30 minutes to an hour for your bridal portraits. Apart from the photographs to cherish that dress, they are ideal and quiet moments to relax and reflect.  Dress by Alfred Angelo.

I'm a little biased because I'm a father of a growing young lady but dad and daughter moments are among my favorites to photograph during a wedding.   I was so happy to hear that Rachel wanted a first look with her dad; they are a cherished moment for both.  A girl's first true love is for her father.

Michael sees Rachel in her dress for the first time.  He holds her hand gently after putting the wedding ring on her finger.  They exchange vows and enjoy their first kiss.  Greenery abound during the summer months and lights strung along the red brick wall, the Centennial Art Center makes for a simple and beautiful location for a wedding ceremony.

How often do you have all your families and friends all in one place!  Make sure to take awesome family pictures with them; we can make them fun; I promise!

You grew up with them, they have seen you at your worst and your best and stuck with you throughout and now they are dressed to the hilt for your wedding day!  Aside from your traditional bride and groom and wedding party group photos, I think it's important to have a picture with each of your bridesmaids or groomsmen.  (I like to give each one a headshot/portrait as well.  New Facebook profile photos are great thank-you gifts.)

Congratulations Michael and Rachel!
The table settings (Liberty Party Rental, Tablecloths by K's), the flowers (Geny's Flowers & Bridal), the invitations (Midtown Printing) and the cake (Plum Good Pie) - those are the little details you want to remember your perfect wedding day.   Thank you to Wildberry Catering for the fantastic food.

The first dances are a highlight for everyone.  Michael and Rachel started followed by the bride and her father and the groom and his mother.

The in-between moments are just as important as the main events of a wedding.  Weddings are full of happy smiles, fistbumps by dad and family being themselves! And as this classic wedding comes to a close, guests enjoyed dancing (music provided by Teacher's Pet Band and Alan Stoker).  Here is a final tip - sneak out 15 minutes during the party and ask your photographer for some night time portraits; they are often a little different and give you a short break to enjoy each other in-between the dancing.  Finally, Michael and Rachel are a couple who appreciate the arts holding their wedding in an art center so here is a creative spin on the wedding rings photo.

Thank you for all the vendors who made this happen.   Jason Bihler - thanks for assisting and second shooting this wedding with me!  And a special thank you to Lauren Glass for your work in planning and coordinating; it all worked so smoothly!

Party at Tranquility Northwest of Nashville has nestled the town of Adams, Tennessee.  Tranquillity would be a short drive for Nashville couple Kristen and Gabe; it would be the perfect place for their family and friends to celebrate with them - their love, devotion and union.   We arrived at the modern building adjacent to greenhouses and gardens, and we were greeted by the cutest flower girl ever.  Her essential flowery duties also included being sentry, making sure the bride would be safe from prying eyes (except for mother of the bride and photographer).  Kristen's dress features a gorgeous train, trim silhouette and beautiful details, completed by classic white pumps.

Kristen would be ready soon, so Gabe completed up his attire and walked with his groomsmen to the nearby greenhouses.  They provided the perfect place away for their portraits and camaraderie. Their suits were done in a fine navy blue (awesome color for a wedding; the dark blues contrasts well with any color).

With the guys finished, we took the girls out to the backyard woods where we took their portraits and got ready for their first look.  The bridesmaids' dresses are cool and in a classic summer pallete finished with beautiful bouquets.

Seeing her bride for the first time in her wedding dress is one of the highlights for a groom so I was so glad when they decided on a first-look.  It allows the couple an intimate time with just themselves.  The first look allows for much more time for the bride and groom to do portraits and have a bit of calm before the big ceremony and party.  It's probably the most relaxing and peaceful time for the bride and groom during the whole day. Kristen and Gabe had a wonderful ceremony attended by loving parents and friends.   There are great moments in a ceremony.. flower girls gently dropping petals, the father of the bride gently giving her away, a grooms reaction to seeing his bride walk down the aisle and finally, a sand ceremony and finally, the first kiss.

After the ceremony, good planning can provide ample time for lots of hugs, family pictures and hanging out with your wedding party with fun photos.  The time with your bridesmaids and groomsmen is special and while we do many standard poses, it's fun to just try something different; in this case, the guys engaged in a push-up competition for the bride's compliment.

The party officially begins with a series of first dances: the bride and groom, the bride and father and the groom and his mom. There must be honest and touching things discussed between dancers because they are  filled with the most reflective emotion and boisterous laughter.

There are many events at a reception but I'd like to highlight the garter retrieval and toss.   Gabe was determined and he succeeded; this one is for him.  Some of the guys were less excited about winning the garter, however.

Kristen and her bridesmaids showed everyone else how it's done at the dance floor.

The night continued with more dancing.  One of the favorites was a generation dance where all couples went to the dance floor and stayed based on their couplehood's longevity.  The winning couple (the two who have been together for the longest time) was given the microphone and gave the Kristen and Gabe some time-tested advice.  Dancing continued during the night with appearances by the YMCA and the train.  The celebrations continued even with the couple's beloved 4-legged companion hitting the floor as well.  Finding the right DJ is super essential; they are the lifeblood of your party and can control the mood by mixing the right songs to taste.

Thank you Kristen and Gabe and your family for having us photograph your wedding; and thank you to all the wonderful vendors who provided the drinks, music, food and many details for the couple and guests.

Woodland wedding Rebekah and Kenny come from large, loving families that celebrate everything together (I should know, I'm Kenny's brother in law).  They have been planning a wedding, but things could never line up.  One morning during brunch, they surprised me by telling me that they were going to do it.  Screw the planning; it'll never happen if they tried to get the stars to align they said.  I asked them when; they replied, "a week!"  We negotiated since I would be of town and we settled on a Wednesday afternoon soon after.  This is their wedding.

We travelled the short drive to Franklin, TN (a suburb of Nashville, TN) known for shopping and tasty places to eat (more on that later!). Amidst the bustling traffic and mall-goers is hidden this secret garden that Rebekah found.  It was a secluded grove of trees with a clearing; this would be the place where they would be married.

Upon parking, they stood back to back and exchanged letters.  They embraced, enjoyed the moment and proceeded to walk together to their ceremony location.

Even if they drove and walked together, Kenny was still in awe from seeing his beautiful bride for the first time (My last statement is a lie; they had already seen each other, and this reaction may not have been completed candid, but they all played along!)

This smile, however, was genuine and it's undeniable how happy Kenny was to finally make Rebekah his wife.

Pastor Randy shared a beautiful message.  They enjoyed the beautiful day and warm sun embracing this moment that they had waited for so long.  They asked for the ring.

Kennedy Rose was the perfect ring bearer (and maid of honor and best daughter).

So Rebekah and Kenny proceeded to exchange rings.

They would say 'I Do' (which tickled Kennedy).

But Kennedy wasn't thrilled to witness her parents kissing.

It was their family of 3, and perfect comes in 3.

They had their first toast and glass bottle of champagne as a married couple.

They had their first dance.

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, they had ice cream at Kilwins of Franklin.

...and then pizza (the most amazing three pizzas at Pieology Pizzeria).

Congratulations Kenny and Rebekah!  Here's to more family brunches and happy memories.

Rainy Cheekwood The Cheekwood Botanical Garden is a venue you get excited about for your wedding day.   Couples and photographers alike google images of this famous garden in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee to admire the beautiful landscapes and flowers.   In the days leading up to Alex and Jaynee's wedding day, we would check the weather.  It would be cold.  It would rain.   We were still a week shy of the spring bloom.

When I finally met the couple at their downtown hotel, they were unperturbed and carried on in getting ready.  They exchanged love letters.   Jaynee opened hers in the hotel lobby.  Alex made his way to the venue and opened his letter there so that they wouldn't see each other.   Love letters before the first look is a beautiful way to express your thoughts and feelings; it allows a quiet and reflective time before the busyness of the wedding day.  They are often the reason for precious love felt tears and laughs.

Alex hid behind the mansion which is situated in the center of the arboretum.  The couple loved the large stone pillars and surrounding architecture.  Jaynee walked to met her future husband.  He would see her in her wedding dress for the very first time.  I like to recommend everyone do a first look, it's such a treasured moment reserved for just the bride and groom and the rest of the day just flows a little easier after that.  In this case, it also gave us a chance to take pictures while the weather was dry.

It was an intimate wedding attended by their parents (who flew just the night before from Puerto Rico).  It was a beautiful wedding!  The rings were passed to the parents who then took part in the ring exchange (I even got to play the part of ring bearer!).  The officiant prepared a very warm and appropriate message and then pronounced them as husband and wife.

The rain started to come down at the moment of their first kiss and it wouldn't stop even after the end.   It was then that I realized something.  The downpour didn't distract them from each other.  They simply looked at each other with as much love as could have been possible.  Their smiles were warmer than a summer sun and their affection for each other was lovelier than any flower that could have bloomed that day.  We walked around and took their pictures all around the park.  They walked and shared an umbrella. There was a kiss here and there. At the end of the day, they danced!

We're in the South where rain is often plentiful and unpredictable.  On your wedding day, the most important thing is being together with loved ones.  At the end of the day, remembering that you are with the one you love.  Enjoy your day and love every moment of it regardless of everything else.

There is no 'bad time' to get married at the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens; it's magnificent in sun and rain.  Wedding preparations and officiating were done by Weddings & Events By Raina; I love working with you!  The sharp suit and gorgeous tulle dress were from the Men's Warehouse and the Aquarius Brand. The bride's bouquet is from T. Villager Designs.
